Teaching our Kids about Charity and Compassion
You may have heard about the fantastic show airing on PBS, Mack & Moxy. This Parents Choice Award winning program is teaching children, typically ages 3-7, life-long lessions of charity and compassion. Kids are learning from the show's animated characters, Mack and Moxy, along with role model celebrity guests that it is a joy to serve others. The Mack and Moxy creators have set out to join hands with leading non-profit organizations in an effort to raise the "next generation of great humanitarians."
The Mack and Moxy show writers, one of which has a child on the spectrum, wanted to be sure they they had an episode featuring autism inclusion. We gladly accepted the program's request to partner with Easter Seals to create a spectacular learning experience for kids across the country. Unlike many television shows and movies, Mack and Moxy decided to have a child on the spectrum play the role rather than an actor. Easter Seals' very own Charlie Owens, an 11-year-old on the spectrum, will be playing Trooper Charlie in the episode entitled "A Spectrum of Possibilities". Charlie will be the first EVER child with autism who is not an actor being featured in an entertainment program of this capacity. We cannot wait to cheer him on when this breakthrough episode airs in July! Be sure you and your little one tune in to learn about the importance of autism inclusion!
We are so incredibly proud of our young client for breaking the mold and getting one step closer to his dream of becoming a director! Easter Seals has been working with Charlie and his twin brother Max since they first received their diagnosis. Way to go, Charlie! Your Easter Seals Family is overjoyed for your success and can't wait to see what you do next!
